A good beginning for Tony Cairoli

Tony Cairoli's 2018 has begun in exactly the same fashion as that of 2017! The nine-time MXGP World Champion dominated the Sardinian weekend taking first in the MX1 race and first in the Super Champion final, which sees the top twenty of both MX1 and MX2 race against eachother, as well as being the fastest rider at all times out on track. After having won the first gate in the timed practice of MX1, Antonio headed everyone in the race heat, leading from the first to last lap on sand made heavy by the abundant rain that fell in the two days previous, signing off with the fastest lap (1.50.222!!!) and finishing twenty seconds clear of his nearest rival.

In the Supercampione race Cairoli again started very well, smashing the hole-shot for the second time with his KTM 450 SX-F, but failing to gap his opponents as in the first heat. On the seventh lap the KTM Red Bull Factory Racing Team rider lost the lead of the race, slipping into third position during the eighth lap, before regaining the lead a few corners later. From that moment #TC222 would not be bettered again and the finish line saw the Sicilian first for the second time of the day. From Sardinia the team will now move to Sicily for the second round of the Italian International MX SDV Series.

Antonio Cairoli: “Today we are really happy about the race because the first race of the season is always a difficult one. We managed to have a good weekend, we are still testing some parts before the world championship start and the Italian International series is always a good place where to make those tests. Now we are looking forward to the next race in Sicily, where I will ride on my home soil and meet a lot of my fans.”
